Fathom Pro vs Portfolio

Differences between the plan types and features

Updated this week

🎉 Beta Feature: Portfolio plans are a beta feature available to subscribers. See our 'Beta Features' article to learn how to turn beta features on & off.

If you have any feedback on this beta feature, please reach out to support@fathomhq.com.

What does this mean?

The plan type directly impacts the features you can access for each company and your current or future subscription.

Companies on Fathom Pro are included under one billing plan, while companies on Portfolio are included under a separate billing plan. You can use one or both plans in the same Fathom organisation.

Your monthly invoice will include any plans you have subscribed to, summing to a total monthly charge.

For Triallists

During your trial, you can explore all of Fathom’s features for free. We recommend importing at least one Fathom Pro company to fully utilise your trial period.

If you want to subscribe with only companies on a Portfolio plan, you can downgrade the Fathom Pro companies to Portfolio before subscribing. Your subscription starts when your trial period ends.

Which companies does this apply to?

When importing a cloud-sourced company into Fathom (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks Online, MYOB AccountRight Live, Sage Business Cloud), you can import it as Fathom Pro or Portfolio.

You can upgrade or downgrade a company's plan type at any time.

If you import a company from QuickBooks Desktop, MYOB AccountRight, Sage 50 Accounts, or Excel, the company must be on a Fathom Pro plan.

📝 Note: Learn more about importing companies from our 'Importing financials' article.

📝 Note: Only cloud-sourced (i.e. Xero, QuickBooks Online, MYOB AccountRight Live, and Sage Business Cloud) companies can be imported on a Portfolio plan. Companies imported from Excel or a Desktop source (i.e. QuickBooks Desktop, MYOB AccountRight, Sage 50 Accounts) must be imported on a Fathom Pro plan.

Portfolio

Companies on a Portfolio plan will appear on the Insights Dashboard and have access to the Metric Drill Down and Summary Reports. Portfolio companies can import up to 36 months of financial data.

The Portfolio pricing plan is designed to allow accountants to have oversight over their entire client base.

💡Smart Tip: You can bulk import and bulk update multiple cloud-sourced companies at a time.

Insights Dashboard

View all of your imported companies on the Insights Dashboard.

You can create custom tags and filter the dashboard to view companies of specific industries, locations, source accounting systems, etc.

Quickly see how your companies perform across specific metrics and identify which companies or clients are struggling to meet thresholds.

You can set thresholds to track performance against a metric’s result or growth. Metrics not meeting performance thresholds will be displayed in amber/yellow or red.

With custom threshold sets, you can input thresholds according to industry, size, business life stage, etc.

Metric Drill Down

Select a company on the dashboard to view a trended chart of its historical performance for the chosen metric. You can easily identify if the current performance is part of a trend or an outlier.

You can also compare trended performance against a second metric.

Summary Reports

Quickly generate a Summary Report to download to PDF. You can choose which topics are covered in the report (e.g. Profitability, Cash Flow, Debt & Equity, etc.). You’re able to generate this report from the Insights Dashboard or a company’s Metric Drill Down.

Fathom Pro

Companies on a Fathom Pro plan have access to all of Fathom's features, including those available on a Portfolio plan.

Features available exclusively to Fathom Pro are:

Fathom Pro companies can import up to 96 months, or 8 years, of financial data. For optimal performance, we recommend importing 60 months or 5 years. You can also import or create budget data for Fathom Pro companies for reporting and forecasting.

Analysis Tools

Track financial and non-financial KPI performance in the Analysis tools. You can create custom KPIs to tailor analysis to specific industries or company goals.

Reports

In addition to Summary Reports, companies on Fathom Pro have access to an entire suite of reporting tools. You can create branded, tailored reports specific to your company or client.

Decide which charts, tables, and statements are included in a report and customise each reporting element.

You can create report templates to standardise reporting across multiple companies or clients. You’ll also be able to schedule the creation of draft or published reports from templates to ensure you meet reporting deadlines.

Fathom Pro reports can be viewed online or downloaded to PDF.

Forecast

Build a forecast or budget within Fathom. When a company’s financials are updated, the data feeds into the forecast, ensuring your forecast remains relevant throughout the financial year.

You can explore various scenarios and plan for hiring, asset purchases, and raising capital. Track important metrics like Cash on Hand as you forecast to ensure that decisions you're considering can be funded.

Company customisation

Companies on a Fathom Pro plan have access to the Company Settings. From there, you can tailor the Chart of Accounts in Fathom, create custom KPIs, and set targets specific to a company. You're also able to import a budget for comparison to a business's actual performance.

Consolidations

Companies from various source accounting systems can be consolidated in Fathom. Consolidated groups have their own group settings, analysis tools, reports, and forecast.

Fathom enables single and multi-currency consolidations.

All companies in a consolidated group must be on a Fathom Pro plan. The consolidations themselves are at no additional cost.

Benchmark groups

Create your own internal benchmark groups. Because you decide which companies are included in a benchmark group, you can ensure you have a good dataset.

Companies in a benchmark group have access to the Compare and Rank tools. You can identify which companies perform best in a specific region, industry, or lifecycle stage. You can use the benchmark group data to identify best practices to share with other companies or clients.

You can also include these internal benchmarking results in Pro reports to help your companies or clients better understand their performance.

All companies in a benchmark group must be on a Fathom Pro plan. The benchmark groups themselves are at no additional cost.

Which option is more cost-effective?

Cost-effectiveness depends on how many companies you're importing on each plan.

You can use only one or both plans in the same Fathom organisation. Each plan has a separate billing tier structure.

Your monthly invoice will include any plans you have subscribed to, summing to a monthly charge.

💡Smart Tip: Fathom Pro is the most cost-effective option for businesses importing one company into Fathom.

Fathom Pro pricing structure

Fathom Pro plans have a staggered pricing tier structure.

Fathom Pro pricing plans include only the companies imported onto that plan. The lowest Fathom Pro pricing tier is for single companies.

If you have maxed out the number of companies in a Fathom Pro tier, importing another company onto Fathom Pro will not automatically move you into the next pricing tier. Instead, your subscription cost will only increase by one additional company. The Fathom Pro plan tier determines the cost per additional company.

You will only be automatically moved into a higher Fathom Pro pricing tier when it becomes more cost-effective for your total Fathom Pro plan company count.

Example:

A customer is on a Fathom Pro Gold plan.

A Gold plan includes 25 companies with an additional fee for each company beyond 25 companies.

The customer currently has 25 companies imported onto a Fathom Pro plan.

If they add an additional company to their Fathom Pro plan, bringing their total to 26 companies, they will not be moved into the Fathom Pro Platinum tier level.

Instead, they will remain on the Fathom Pro Gold plan and only have their monthly fee increased by the additional company fee.

Portfolio pricing structure

Portfolio plans have a banded pricing tier structure.

Portfolio pricing plans only include companies imported to Portfolio. The lowest Portfolio pricing tier is for 0-100 Portfolio companies.

If you have maxed out the number of companies in your current Portfolio tier, importing another company to Portfolio will automatically move you into the next tier.

Example:

A customer is subscribed to the 0-100 Portfolio tier, which allows for a maximum of 100 companies.

The customer currently has 100 companies imported on their Portfolio plan.

If they import another company, bringing their total number of companies on Portfolio to 101, they will be moved into the next Portfolio pricing tier of 101-300 companies.
