Monitor performance across all companies

Identify underperforming and growing companies

Fathom’s Insights Dashboard enables you to monitor the performance of all imported companies, regardless of plan type.

You can quickly identify if any companies are experiencing high levels of growth or struggling to meet performance thresholds. The average results of the companies appear at the top of the dashboard, enabling you to easily compare individual company results to the overall average.

To better understand the results trend, you can access the Metric Drill Down for each company. You can also generate Summary Reports from the dashboard to share your findings.

Access the dashboard

You can access the Insights Dashboard from the My Companies page. Simply click on the Trendline icon on the left sidebar.

Customise the display

The Insights Dashboard is interactive and can be adjusted in several ways. When you change the display, you’re only changing it for yourself.

You can change the:

Period

You can change the period for which results are being viewed:

  1. In the top right corner, click the bolded and underlined period

  2. Select the period you want to view

The most recent period you can select to view on the Insights Dashboard is the current month. You can also select any past periods for which you have data in Fathom. If you're not seeing data, please see our 'Why am I not seeing results?' section.

👀 Insider Info: Currently, the Insights Dashboard can only display monthly results. The ability to view quarterly and yearly results will be coming soon!

Metrics and columns

You can add to and change the metrics displayed on the Insights Dashboard.

📝 Note: Only a select set of KPIs can be viewed on the Insights Dashboard. It is not possible to view custom KPIs on the dashboard. If you want to see a KPI on the dashboard, please let us know at support@fathomhq.com.

To change the metric displayed:

  1. Click on the name of the metric
    ​

  2. Select another metric from the dropdown menu

You can have up to 6 columns displayed on the dashboard. To add columns:

  1. Select Columns near the top right corner of the dashboard
    ​

  2. Choose Add or remove columns
    ​
    ​

  3. Click on a metric to add or remove it
    ​
    ​

  4. Select Done

💡 Smart Tip: Re-order columns from the ‘Columns’ menu by hovering your mouse to the left of the listed metric. Grab the Dotted Grid icon that appears to drag the column up or down the list.

Filter companies displayed

You can also filter the companies you're viewing to focus on specific cohorts. As you update the companies included in the dashboard view, the averages at the top update as well. This enables you to view and compare the performance of similar companies.

To filter the dashboard:

  1. Select Filters at the top of the dashboard
    ​

  2. From the Filters menu, you can select one or several filter options:
    ​

    1. Metric performance: Choose to display companies with specific currency results or growth performance for each metric on the dashboard

      1. Select Add

      2. Choose Greater than, Between, or Less than

      3. Type in the metric result to view
        ​

    2. Tags: View companies with specific tags.

      1. Tags are entirely customisable. You can tag companies depending on industry, company size, location, etc. You may need to create tags before you can see this filter. Learn more from our 'Tags' article.
        ​

    3. Thresholds: View companies meeting Red, Amber/Yellow, and/or Green thresholds. You can choose the threshold outcome(s) you wish to view for each metric.

      1. Thresholds can be customised for different cohorts. Learn more about setting thresholds and what they mean from our 'Thresholds' article.
        ​

    4. Source: Choose to display companies from specific source accounting systems.
      ​

    5. Plan type: Choose to view companies on a Fathom Pro and/or Portfolio plan
      ​

    6. Threshold collection: Display companies assigned to specific threshold collections.

Clicking the 'Clear all filters' option on the right of the Filters menu quickly clears all selected filters. 

💡 Smart Tip: Click on any or all to choose to display companies meeting any of the selection criteria or all the criteria under a filter option.

Sort companies displayed

The Sort options determine the order in which companies are displayed on the Insights Dashboard.

To sort companies:

  1. Select Sort at the top of the dashboard
    ​

  2. Choose to sort by:

    1. Name: View in alphabetical order

    2. Result: View the companies in order by currency result for a specific metric

    3. Growth: View the companies in order by growth performance for a specific metric
      ​
      ​

  3. Click on the option again to reverse the order

    1. E.g. If you selected Name, click on it again to view in reverse alphabetical order

You can also sort companies by performance by clicking on the metric Result or metric Growth column title.

Other display options

In addition to the customisations above, the Insights Dashboard enables you to change the currency of the dashboard and hide the averages at the top.

  1. Select Options on the right side of the dashboard

  2. Toggle on or off the Show Key Numbers options

    1. If toggled off, the averages at the top of the dashboard will be hidden. This will enable you to see the results of more companies on your screen while viewing the dashboard. You can still see the averages when hovering over the icon to the right of each metric column title.

  3. Change the presentation currency for the dashboard

The dashboard’s presentation currency defaults to the currency of your Fathom organisation’s country. Your organisation’s country is set in the Organisation Settings.

If a company’s currency does not match the presentation currency of the Insights Dashboard, the company’s financial results are translated into the dashboard’s currency. The results are translated according to exchange rates sourced from Open Exchange Rates.

The exchange rates for the Insights Dashboard cannot be customised. To learn more about our multi-currency translation methodology, please see our 'Multi-currency Translation Methodology' article.

Metric Drill Down

When viewing results on the Insights Dashboard, you can see a small trend chart for each company’s metric result.

The Metric Drill Down enables you to:

  • See a larger version of this chart

  • See the exact results for each period on the trend line

  • Compare one metric to another in the same trend chart

To view the Metric Drill Down:

  1. Click a metric’s result for a company or click the Three dots icon for the company and choose Open drill down

  2. When the Metric Drill Down opens, you can click on the bolded and underlined options to change the:

    1. Period displayed: As you change the period, the periods along the x-axis of the chart will update to match.

    2. Trend range: You can display up to 3 years of data

    3. Trend focus: Choose which metric on the chart is highlighted

  3. You can also generate a Summary Report from the trend chart

📝 Note: The results in the Metric Drill Down will be displayed in the company’s currency, not the currency of the Insights Dashboard.

When you generate a Summary Report from the Metric Drill Down, the report will automatically contain pages related to the selected metrics.

For example, if the Metric Drill Down was displaying Revenue and Expenses, then the Summary Report would contain a Revenue & Expenses page. You can still add or remove pages from the Summary Report.

Summary Reports

You’re able to create Summary Reports from the Insights Dashboard. Click the Page icon next to a company name to generate a Summary Report for that company.

📝 Note: For companies on a Fathom Pro plan, Pro Reports must be accessed from the Reporting area for a company or consolidated group. Only Summary Reports can be generated from the Insights Dashboard.

Why am I not seeing results?

A dash may appear in the place of values on the Insights Dashboard if data have not been imported or updated for the viewed period. Companies on a Portfolio plan can import data up to the most recently completed month.

💡Smart Tip: You can bulk update financial data for cloud-sourced companies.

Additionally, Fathom does not support currency translation for all currencies. You can view the list of currencies with translation support.

If the individual company uses a currency that differs from the dashboard’s currency and that Fathom does not support translation for, then the ‘Result’ columns will have a ‘-’ displayed. However, values will be displayed in the ‘Growth’ columns. You can view the Metric Drill Down for the company to see the currency results in the individual company’s currency.
