Creating a report

In the ‘Report Centre’, you’re able to quickly generate Excel reports of your company’s financials and KPI data in the ‘Excel Reports’ section.

You can also create custom reports completely from scratch or by basing the report off of a template. Fathom has several Predefined or pre-made templates for you to use to help build your report. If you create the perfect report, then you can save it as a custom template to generate future reports from.

To create a custom report:

  1. Go to the ‘Draft’ section of the Report Centre and select the option to ‘Create report’.

  2. Choose to create a report from scratch or from a template.

  3. If creating a report from a template:

    • Select the reporting period (month, quarter, or year)

    • Choose a template

  4. If creating a report from scratch:

    • Type in a title for the report (this can be changed later)

    • Choose the reporting period (month, quarter, or year)

    • Choose the default page orientation (portrait or landscape). Sections in the report can be in a different orientation; this will simply be the main orientation for your report.

Once your report has been created, you're able to add customisable financial statements & tables, charts & graphs, and text & commentary to your report with the Report Editor.


Creating your first custom Fathom report

There are a few tips and tricks for creating your first custom Fathom report:

  • Start off with a predefined template that you can edit and customise.

    • Allows you to see the types of reporting components available in Fathom

    • You might also find it less overwhelming to start with many components you can pick and choose from rather than a blank page.

  • Use the first section of your report to summarise the report and point out key metrics or results.

    • You can also mention plans or actions to improve business performance in this section.

    • You can dive into detail for any key metrics or results in later sections of the report. The first section is for the highlights.

  • Use page ‘Layouts’ to add several components to a report at once.

    • Allows you to see the types of components available

    • Enables you to build a report more quickly.

  • If you spend time creating the perfect report, you’re able to turn that report into a template to schedule to automatically create future reports.
