Performing divisional analysis

Once you have imported divisions (e.g. tracking categories, classes, locations, jobs) for your company, Fathom enables you to use divisions in the Analysis tools in the following ways:

Viewing KPIs for your divisions

If you have created divisional KPIs in the company, you can view them and their results within the Analysis tools.

You can select to view these metrics in the KPI summary, KPI Explorer, and Trend analysis tools.

Breakdown Analysis

The Breakdown analysis tool ranks each division's performance within the company. In addition to viewing profitability metrics, you can view results for accounts in your chart of accounts or KPIs.

To use the tool,

  1. Select the metric or account for breakdown by clicking the first bolded variable selector at the top of the tool.

  2. Choose any KPI (default or custom), Chart of Account line item, or any summary classification from the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet to breakdown by division.

  3. Sort the breakdown display by clicking on the second bolded variable selector at the top of the tool.

  4. Choose to sort the tool alphabetically or by result in the dropdown menu.

  5. Select the '+' icon to add a comparative

💡 Pro Tip: You can import divisional budget data from Xero or QuickBooks Online to visually compare actuals to the budget. If you are comparing to the budget and are not seeing budget data, then ensure the budget you've imported has data for the divisions being viewed.

  6. You can compare to a prior period or the budget

  7. For additional insight into a division's performance and a trend of recent results, click on the bar for the company in the Breakdown tool.

You can also click on the 'download' icon in the bottom left corner of the analysis tools to create a PDF report of the current view of the Breakdown tool.

Financials Analysis

When viewing the Financials Analysis tool for a company with divisions, click on any row to reveal a helpful breakdown of that account across your divisions.

For further insights, sort your divisions by result or by alphabetical order. You can also compare results against the last month or the same month last year.
