User roles and permissions

Manage the level of access for each user invited to your account

Updated this week

User roles

When adding a new user to your account, it is important to choose a role that aligns with their intended use of Fathom. There are four user roles available in Fathom:

Client (Viewer)

For companies that are shared with them, Client users can view:

  • Analysis tools

  • Published Pro Reports

  • Forecasting

By default, Client users cannot add, edit, or delete companies, and they are unable to customise reports or forecasts. However, these permissions can be further tailored with advanced user permissions.

Client-level users cannot view or be given access to:

  • Companies on a Portfolio plan.

  • The Insights Dashboard.

  • The demo company at the bottom of the 'My Companies' page.

Advisor (Editor)

Advisors can view, access, and edit companies that are specifically shared with them or companies that they imported. They can also view and access the demo company at the bottom of the 'My Companies' page.

All Advisor/Editor-level users can upgrade or downgrade a company’s plan type, from Portfolio to Fathom Pro or vice versa. This movement may affect your subscription depending on your current plan, tier level, and number of companies. For more details, please visit our changing your subscription plan article.

Advisor/Editor access can be further tailored with advanced user permissions.

Administrator

Administrators have access to every company in the organisation. They can upgrade, downgrade, add, and delete companies.

Additionally, Admins can add and manage users, add KPIs to the KPI Library, update organisation details and create benchmarking groups.

Account Owner

By default, the account owner is the user who initially signs up for the Fathom account. Account owners (in addition to also being an Administrator) can update billing information, change subscription plans and view usage information.

There can only be one account owner per organisation. Account ownership can be transferred at any time by the existing account owner to any other 'Admin' user on the account.

Advanced User Permissions

From time to time, you may need to further restrict or enable access in a manner that is different to the default permissions associated with a user role.

To apply more granular access control to specific features and screens, see our 'Advanced User Permissions'.
