Set targets in a consolidated group

🎉 Beta feature: Does your group's Settings look different to this article? The updated Consolidated Group Settings are currently in beta. To enable this functionality, you must turn on the beta flag.

Targets can be set to track a consolidated group's KPI performance. These can be viewed and updated within the Targets section of consolidated group Settings.

Targets in a consolidated group are not aggregated from the underlying entities. They are instead set at the consolidated group level. The default targets in the consolidated group are arbitrary numbers.

Targets can be applied on a constant or variable basis:

  • Constant targets use the same value each month.

  • Variable targets enable you to vary a KPI's target for each month, helping you to account for seasonality or growth in a business.

In the upper right corner of the Targets section, you can click the bolded text to choose between using constant or variable targets.

Fathom will automatically calculate the target for each quarter (or QTD period) and year (or YTD period) based on the KPI’s aggregation type.

The unit of measure (%, $, days, etc.) for a target is defined by the KPI that you are applying it to.

💡Smart Tip: If you need to change the unit of measure or aggregation type for a custom KPI, you’ll need to edit the KPI within one of the underlying companies in the consolidated group.

    2. Click the arrow icon to:

      1. Apply the same target to every month going forward

      2. Copy the existing target to every month going forward

      3. Adjust by a percentage amount each month

      4. Adjust by a constant amount each month

  3. Save your changes

💡Smart Tip: You can use the 'Copy Settings' option to copy targets from another company or group. Learn more from our 'Can I copy the settings between companies or groups?' article.

Use budgets to set consolidated targets

Underlying company budgets automatically roll up to the consolidated group level, and the values are consolidated. The consolidated budget can be used to set targets for financial KPIs.

Set annual growth targets

For most targets, you can only set monthly amounts. Fathom will automatically calculate the target for each quarter (or QTD period) and year (or YTD period) based on the KPI’s aggregation type.

You can, however, set annual targets for the default Fathom KPIs listed within the ‘Growth’ category.

To set annual growth targets:

  1. Click the Three stacked lines with dots icon in the upper right corner of the Targets section to open the Options menu

  2. Toggle on ‘Annual growth rates

The targets for those metrics will display the annual target values. If you are setting variable targets, you can set an annual percentage change for the growth rates of those metrics.
