Update Non Financial KPI Results

How to update non-financial data in Fathom and turn on or off automatic updates

Updated this week

This feature is included with Fathom Pro - the plan with access to all of Fathom's features. Companies on Portfolio can be upgraded to Fathom Pro at any time.

Update from Google Sheets

By default, automatic updates are turned off for non-financial KPIs sourced from Google Sheets. If automatic updates are turned on, then the non-financial results will be updated once every 24 hours.

If changes have been made to the non-financial data in Google Sheets recently, then a manual sync is needed to bring the changes over.

💡Smart Tip: This article is about updating non-financial data in Fathom. For more information on importing non-financial data for the first time, please see our ‘Non-financial KPIs’ article.

To update non-financials from a connected Google Sheet:

  1. Go to the Non-financials section of company Settings

🎉 Beta feature: Does your company's Settings look different? The updated Source Data section of Settings is currently in beta. To enable this functionality, you must turn on the beta flag.

  2. Listed beneath Sources are the connected data sources for the company

  3. Select the green Sync option for the Google Sheet you would like to update.

You can manually enter data into Fathom for KPIs that are sourced from Google Sheets, as long as the period does not already contain values. These manual entries will exist only in Fathom and will not sync back to the connected Google Sheet.

If you manually enter values for KPIs sourced from Google Sheets, those values will be overwritten once the Google Sheet contains data for that same period. Additionally, if the Google Sheet contains data anywhere within a period’s column, any empty cells in that period will overwrite the manual entries you previously added in Fathom.

How Fathom handles empty period columns

For period columns in Google Sheets that are completely empty of non-financial data, Fathom will import the results only if there are results on either side of the period.

Example: In Google Sheets, you have entered KPI results for April and June. There are no entries for May. Because null results are valid, Fathom will assume all results for May are null and will import them.

For empty periods on either end of a data set, Fathom will not import null results and instead assumes that there is no data for those periods rather than null results.

Turn automatic updates on or off

Automatic updates for KPI results sourced from a Google Sheet are not on by default.

To turn on automatic updates for a Google Sheet with non-financial results:

  1. Go to KPIs in the company’s Settings

  2. Select Non-financial KPI results (below the 'Add a KPI' button)

  3. Select the Plug icon in the top right corner of the non-financials page.

  4. Select the Google Sheet.

  5. In the menu on the right, select Automatic Syncing under ‘Sync Schedule’ to turn on automatic updates.

    1. To turn automatic updates off, select the ‘None’ option.

Sync schedules are set on a connection-by-connection basis. You can have some Google Sheet connections scheduled to update automatically, and others set for manual syncing only.

Update from Excel

Fathom does not maintain a live connection with Excel, as it does with Google Sheets, so non‑financial results imported from Excel cannot update automatically.

Therefore, to update non-financial results from Excel, you will need to upload an updated file.
