What is segmentation?

After creating a benchmark group, you need to decide how you wish to segment the companies in the group into subgroups for comparison and ranking purposes.

Companies can be segmented based on defined values within a category. You can define up to 5 different classification categories for each benchmark group.

Common ways of segmenting on benchmark group include:

  • By region

  • Company size

  • Company type, etc.

Each of these classification categories can have up to 15 values that you will define by entering the values separated by commas.

Example: If you were segmenting a benchmark group by region, then values for the region segmentation could include North, South, East, and West.

How to create a category for segmentation

To create a segmentation category:

  1. Select ‘Add category

  2. In the menu that opens, type in a name for the category

  3. Then, type in a list of possible values for that category with each possible value separated by a common

  4. Select ‘Add’ once you’ve finished to create the category

  5. Select ‘Save changes’ to save the category in the benchmark group

After creating the segmentation categories and possible values, you will need to assign companies to the appropriate segmentation profiles in 'Step 2 - Company Profile' within each underlying Company Settings.
